Smoke-Fired Greenware and Bisque Porcelain

Mustang Variations was a moment of serendipity when I accidentally applied the the wrong glaze mix to a few greenware pieces. The experiment that followed with smoke-firing produced some surprising results, inviting me to explore the process further. The smoky patchwork immediately made me think of wild horses of the open plains, in particular the patch work beauties around the world who stand apart in their appearance, encompassing all that is individual.

Here is a sample of the little surprises of smoke-firing. Further pictures will be posted as the experiment progresses. Who knows where the patch pony spirits might lead. The smaller pieces vary between 6 cm and 10 cm and the taller ones 12 cm - 15 cm.

Porcelain is like skin, eyes, ears, tongue, wet lips, and hair, it feels, strokes,
undresses the vision, all that remains is its unforgiving mark.
